Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Testing a few technologies, and inspired by people on YouTube who sing and/or make their own music clips. Enjoy
Good and bad ride today
Call me soft, but I woke up at 6ish this morning, looked at the wet roads outside and decided I wasn’t going to do the BBC ride. I don’t mind getting wet so much, its that I can’t be miffed cleaning the bike after in those conditions. Plus I have no idea how to clean my jersey after getting muddy racing stripe on it.
I watched children’s TV instead and waited til 9am and headed to BBC down the road. Met up with the BV forum gang and was called all manner of names for not riding (just kidding). Well, the word soft was hurled at me with frequency (Thanks Lisa ;P)
Food was great, but I had to many bits of waffle and and that very rich chocolate sauce (It’s so hard to stop!). I proly should not have mixed the waffle and sauce with the muslie, fruit salad, yogurt and milk in the one bowl…
Felt bad for not riding in the morning and luckily the weather was quite pleasant in the afternoon. So I went for ride to Mordi and back. The ride was fine, with time/speed around my average. But for some reason on the way up my right calf muscle kept threatening to strain/pull. I had to stop a couple of times to stretch it out. On the way back it was OK. Might just be a bit cold and I didn’t warm up first.
All in all a nice day. Have a house warming to go to but can’t be naffed. Might stay home and watch DVDs instead. How unsociable!
The Moz
I’m not depressed or anything but I’ve just spent the last two hours on YouTube watching Morrissey and The Smiths clips!!! Hehe…
He was probably famous for being a miserable sod but I’m just reminiscing about the good old days of Britpop and going clubbing back in the mid 90s…bopping along to groups like Suede, Oasis, Pulp and the Cardigans. Good times…
That’s all, should get to bed now. Leave you with this:
Day @ Sorrento
I went to Sorrento today. Melb hadn’t had weather like today for ages so the opportunity was too good to pass. It was pretty much all clear skies and was maybe 15 degrees. I thought it would be much cooler down there but was still quite nice. I’d never been to Sorrento before and I think I’ll be going back there once in a while to enjoy some fish & chips and lovely views. On the way back I stayed off the freeway and pretty much followed what I think will be the route used for the Sorrento to Melb leg of the ATB ride. There are not too many big hills and the the scenery is fantastic all the way back (with the exception of going through Frankston!! Kidding!!)…Some of the roads are single lane only and quite narrow (and right next to a cliff!), but other than that its going to be a great ride (providing the weather is nice). Of course I wish I has a roadie though…

I’m a lover not a fighter
I don’t normally remember my dreams so I thought I’d get this one down before it escapes my memory…I dreamt I was in the military (I think it was the army but of no nationality in particular). It started off being in training “camp”, except the accommodation was more like a hotel (but the doors had no locks). There were no drills or anything but it was run like a bording house. At one stage we had room inspection and the female officer said our room was too messy and we had to clean up. Don’t remember much about my room-mates. There were three or four of them.
Next thing I know we’re in a different location. It felt/looked something like 40s or 50s Hong Kong and we were in a run down slum area. I was suddenly in the Japanese army (which of course occupied HK between 1941 and 1945 ) and we had a feeling of anticipation or anxiety. We were amongst civilians and soldiers from other countries but didn’t really trust anyone else apart from the few of us.
For reasons I can’t remember we started to plan an escape (not that we were under attack). We went to this place where we had an old fashioned steam train built for us (gee, did they work fast!!) I remember watching two toilets being installed because suddenly one of the soldiers in our group was female. Once the train was finished we set off and we were travelling through the country side. I tried to take photos on my digital camera but the shutter delay meant that I kept missing the object. Doh…
We passed a couple of other trains (travelling in the same and opposite direction) and we thought we’d be caught. They didn’t notice anything so on we went to our first nights rest at an old abandoned building of sorts. I remember having a strong feeling of comradery and mateship, which I suppose you’re supposed to have when you’re in the military.
At this stage I woke up so there’s no knowing whether the escape was successful or not.
Its hideous!
I was watching random YouTube videos the other day (as I do every other day) and looked at a “director’s video” of a cute kitten. Then I followed one related link after another and somehow ended up seeing this:
I get shivers just thinking about it. It reminds me of the Stephen King movie Sleepwalkers.
Will Americans sue for anything?
Americans are pretty excessive people. Sportsmen are the highest paid people on earth (especially in the US). I love my NBA but some of the players are so ridiculously rich and they flaunt it as well. They have many cars and live a mansion big enough to house the population of a small African 3rd world country.
Don’t get me wrong, money is good. I like having money but I think in some places the way money/wealth/fame is portrayed its breeding greed into its people.
There’s been some pretty bizarre law suits in the US, and for huge amounts of money. Like people suing tobacco companies and fast food chains because they claimed not to know what the product would do to them. And the person who sued a coffee outlet after spilling hot coffee on themselves and getting burnt. Now there is a man in Florida suing Microsoft for $US5 million because he says his xbox 360 has scratched, wait for it, two of his disks!! Go figure. But the US legal system has benefited many a strange lawsuit.
Even found a website that documents stupid lawsuit of the month. Priceless!
Hope I don’t get sued for bagging Americans.
Schmap Travel Guide
I’m so excited!! A photo on my Flickr account has been chosen for the Schmap guide to Sydney. Its of Harry’s Cafe de Wheels I took last year. You can see the guide here.
And I’m telling you
I’m a bit obsessed with the song “And I’m telling you (I’m not going)” by Jennifer Holliday at the moment. It was from the Dreamgirls show back in 80 something and then made famous again when the film version came out, with Jennifer Hudson (of American Idol fame) played the part of Effie. I started checking out youtube for different versions of it and its not an easy song to sing. Here’s some of the best of what I’ve found (all live performances):
the jennifer holliday original
jennifer holliday again, but looking a little different
jennifer hudson
the filipina divas (Regine Velasquez (in a long, bright yellow gown), Sarah Geronimo, Sheryn Regis, and Kyla)
regine velasquez by herself
Von Smith (a guy)
can’t forget little bianca ryan (11 yrs old at the time)
whitney houston (pre-drugs)
jasmine trias (from american idol 1 think)
Sara Niemietz
Sara Niemietz (at age 10)
that’s probably enough…for now
