Why?
I don’t want to come across as insensitive. So first of all, I hope they still find missing Aussie backpacker Britt Lapthorne alive and well somewhere. But worst case scenario, that the body that was found turns out to be her. At least her family and friends will have some closure.
But here’s the thing. People go missing in Australia everyday. We don’t here a peep about them. No one demands immediate action and say not enough is being done. So why are we hearing so much about Britt’s case and not any of the others? Is it because she went missing overseas? Is it because the media thinks she is an interesting “story”? I know having the media exposure can actually raise awareness and assist in finding the person but I’m sure that’s not why the media are all over it.
This is like the case of Madeline McCann, the little English girl that went missing in Portugal. It was (and still is to a degree) a media circus. It got to a point where I didn’t relate to her as a missing person anymore but more like a mystery movie as if it wasn’t real.
At the time people were already questioning why so much attention on her when others go missing all the time. They compared it to another British girl that went missing of similar age and her case got hardly any mention. They questioned whether it was becuase Madeline was froma wealthy background and was cute and the other girl was Jo Average. I think she was eventually found.
Anyway, again I hope Britt is found.
When will it stop?
Is it just me or are shavers being being released with one added blade every couple of years?
Just saw a commercial for a Gillette men’s shaver with no less than 5 blades!!
I use an electric shaver now but I remember using a twin blade shaver before and that did me just fine.
Not sure how much they cost but I’d rather buy two and a half twin blades over a five blade one.
One day there might be a 20 blade shaver. And you will be able to shave the whole face in just one stroke!!!
Box of Pooki? Get Pooked!
Got my “Box of Pooki” in the mail today. Well I went to pick it up from the post office. That’s now three things I’ve bought from Catch Of The Day website. I think that’s two items too many!! The first thing I bought was the Bady Mega Box, as posted here. All the items from that one are still in sitting in the box because 1. I don’t have a baby 2. Most of the items are not worthy of giving to my friends who have babies. Then I got the USB HD-TV Tuner was a bargain for $40 odd. But I just spent $50 on an amplified antenna just so I can pick up all the channels properly.\
Then One day I saw the ad for Catch Of The Day’s Birthday celebrations. “Bag of Pooki”, it said. It also said:
* Pooki is our adopted word for C**P.
* You order a bag and we give you a bag, or a box. Oh the suspense!
* We collect any 15 Pooki from the warehouse, and put them in the bag or box.
* We don’t know what Pooki are going in the bag or box. We always deliver ridiculous value for money. It might contain past products from CatchOfTheDay, goodies from daily deals or new things we haven’t sold yet.
* The result? You might jump with indescribable joy, break out into song and dance or just get a warm fuzzy feeling and shout out “I LOVE CATCH OF THE DAY” or not.
I thought I’d give it a go. What a crazy concept. This is what I ended up getting:
A golf caddie drink holder, an Ansley Harriott cooking DVD, a Swiss Army Knife (but no brand), a USB fan, a Freddo Frog, 3 pairs of lady’s socks, a Large T-Shirt, 4 misc items of Jay Jay girls accessories, a The Age photo book “150 years of reflections”, a photo album box, a Denise Austin back support waist band, a “Chef Genius” multi-purpose kitchen tool and my personal favourite, a “Just Add Water” expanding singlet!!!
Needless to say, pretty much all useless products. Most bizarre $30 I’ve ever spent. Never again…
New Kellogg’s Corn Flakes
I haven’t been eating breakfast regularly recently. And when I do its usually a couple of bits of toast and some juice if I’ve got it. I get bored of eating the same thing and so sometimes I have cereal instead. I bought some muslie and a box of new Kellogg’s Corn Flakes. Its corn flakes but with rice in it as well. For some reason I thought it would taste the same, but even looking on the box the flakes are a different colour, with the rice ones a greyish, white sort of colour. Not the most enticing cereal…
Now, having tried them this morning I reckon they’re not bad. They taste more like wheaties than corn flakes. I am a little disappointed that the taste is quite far removed from the orignal corn flakes. So I probably wouldn’t buy them again. I’m just a sucker for new things and advertising!! I mean, really, if I’d wanted rice in my cereal I should have just bought rice bubbles. And its not like I don’t eat enough rice. I mean, c’mon, I’m Chinese!!!
So sad!
I read this article from The Age newspaper that said the Yangtze River Dolphin (or Baiji) has officially been announced to be extinct. It was a very unique animal because it was a fresh water dolphin and only found in the Yangtze river, China. Its demise was attributed to China’s rapid industrialisation, in particular the three gorges dam project. And it looks like the dolphin is not going to be the only victim.
I guess I have a particularly strong feeling about this because 1) Its the only animal I can think of that has become extinct in my lifetime (that I can recall) 2) Its a dolphin and they’re cool! 3) Not many people know, but I have some abstract dolphins tattooed on my arm (e.g. people know I’ve got a tatt but when they ask I just say its a random pattern).

This story really puts into perspective the impact humans are having on the earth. Who, knows how many more animals will become extinct in my lifetime. And lets not even go into the plundering of the earths forrests and other natural resources…
Bye bye flipper of the East!! ‘~’
Will Americans sue for anything?
Americans are pretty excessive people. Sportsmen are the highest paid people on earth (especially in the US). I love my NBA but some of the players are so ridiculously rich and they flaunt it as well. They have many cars and live a mansion big enough to house the population of a small African 3rd world country.
Don’t get me wrong, money is good. I like having money but I think in some places the way money/wealth/fame is portrayed its breeding greed into its people.
There’s been some pretty bizarre law suits in the US, and for huge amounts of money. Like people suing tobacco companies and fast food chains because they claimed not to know what the product would do to them. And the person who sued a coffee outlet after spilling hot coffee on themselves and getting burnt. Now there is a man in Florida suing Microsoft for $US5 million because he says his xbox 360 has scratched, wait for it, two of his disks!! Go figure. But the US legal system has benefited many a strange lawsuit.
Even found a website that documents stupid lawsuit of the month. Priceless!
Hope I don’t get sued for bagging Americans.
